BEAUTIFUL CANALS AND NEIGHBORHOODS
PLACES VISITED: Schippol and Amsterdam
THE NETHERLANDS
Dec 28 to 30, 2016
Last week, my family and I had the opportunity to visit Amsterdam for three days. We had a wonderful time, and I wanted to share some of our experiences with you.
On our first day, we visited the Anne Frank House. This was a moving and educational experience for everyone in our family. We learned about the story of Anne Frank and her family, who hid from the Nazis during World War II. It was a sobering reminder of the horrors of war, but it also showed us the resilience of the human spirit.
After visiting the Anne Frank House, we took a canal cruise. This was a great way to see the city from a different perspective and learn about its history. We saw many beautiful buildings, including the Royal Palace and the Dam Square. We also saw many houseboats, which are a popular way to live in Amsterdam.
In the evening, we had dinner at a traditional Dutch restaurant. We tried some of the local cuisine, such as poffertjes (mini pancakes) and bitterballen (fried meatballs). The food was delicious, and we had a great time experiencing the local culture.
On our second day, we visited the NEMO Science Museum. This museum was a lot of fun for our kids. There were many interactive exhibits that they loved, such as a water playground and a giant ball that they could roll around in. They also learned a lot about science and technology.
After visiting the NEMO Science Museum, we had lunch at a park near the museum. Then, we took a walk along the canals and enjoyed the beautiful weather.
In the evening, we had dinner at a restaurant that served international cuisine. We tried some food from different countries, such as sushi from Japan and pizza from Italy. The food was delicious, and we had a great time trying new things.
On our third and final day in Amsterdam, we took a day trip to Zaanse Schans. This village is home to traditional Dutch windmills, and we even got to go inside one of the windmills to learn how it works. We also saw some cheese shops and souvenir shops in Zaanse Schans.
After visiting Zaanse Schans, we had lunch at a restaurant in the village. Then, we headed back to Amsterdam to catch our flight home.
We had a wonderful time in Amsterdam, and we would definitely recommend it to other families. There is something for everyone in Amsterdam, from history and culture to science and nature. And the food is delicious!
