PLACE VISITED: LISBON
LISBON
Do you know someone who's just beautiful without even trying hard to be? If Lisbon is a person, it would be how I would describe it. There's nothing extravagant or flamboyant in the city but it has a deep character that is fascinating and being here is satisfying. I am not surprised why there's a swarm of tourists everywhere. Such a simple city, small streets, very hilly (Lisbon's famous for 7 hills), it has preserved its natural beauty (those yellow trams are amazing) thru the wars, inquisitions and the major earthquake in 1700 and yet - one could easily feel the aura of strong religion and connection between people- as if saying that hey, we've been thru a lot together, but we survived and we can take on anything. Lovely people Portuguese are. We were at the main circle late afternoon when a group of older men and a woman played traditional instruments- happy songs, nice melodies and suddenly everyone was dancing. Indeed, simplicity is beauty.
Ended the evening with local wine and cheese and a nice sleep (with quite sore legs though).
